Bears Ears National Monument Under Attack

Nov 3, 2017
The 1.35 million acre Bears Ears National Monument was proclaimed by President Obama on Dec. 28, 2016 after years of extensive inventory, input and collaboration led by the Native American tribes who value the landscape as sacred.

The monument designation creates a joint management plan for the Bears Ears Monument with the BLM, Forest Service and an Inter-Tribal commission, including the Coalition's five tribes, and will integrate traditional and historical knowledge into management decisions. This type of co-management is unprecedented for tribes and for ancestral lands that lie outside their reservations.
The Bears Ears National Monument is severely threatened by Secretary Zinke and Trump's administration, who have said they will significantly reduce the boundaries of the monument. EcoFlight and our partners are committed to fighting efforts to reduce or rescind the monument protections.
