On June 20 I had the privilege of flying over the Browns Canyon area to get a better understanding of the proposed national monument and wilderness areas.
I was amazed. Being able to see this area from above really drove home how unique and special Browns Canyon is to our valley.
So much goes on in this area from rafting, kayaking and fishing on the Arkansas River to hiking, horseback riding and hunting up on the trails and rocky terrain.
As a Buena Vista trustee, I feel that all of the surrounding communities should support this effort to permanently protect Browns Canyon, which will drive economic growth and preserve the outdoor recreation activities that we all love.
I’m very thankful to the folks at EcoFlight, The Wilderness Society and Friends of Browns Canyon who sponsored this event as well as the other officials and volunteers who participated.
