Arizona - Maricopa County Solar

State: Arizona
Region: Phoenix, Maricopa County
Description: Western Maricopa County is a vast landscape that includes land from the bradshaw foothills in the Northwest to Vulture Peak in the far West. For many reasons, this is the site for much current and future solar development. Much of the county is composed of BLM areas which have have huge solar applications, between 20,000 and 30,000 acres. While it is difficult to see solar development zones from the air, EcoFlight has played an integral role in demonstrating the potential benefits as well as detriments of solar development in the Arizona desert. These areas are prime solar sites. At the same time, because conservation in Arizona tends to look first and foremost at areas with elevation and topography, these salt-flat areas often go with the least environmental protection.
