State: Wyoming

Created in the 1984 Wyoming Wilderness Act, the Shoal Creek Wilderness Study Area (WSA) is a beautiful roadless area that forms the southern front of the Gros Ventre Range, reaching to the foothills of the Hoback basin. Wildlife is diverse, responding to the varying habitats in the WSA. Shoal Creek contains habitat for elk, moose, mule deer, mountain lion and other forest predators, migratory songbirds, goshawks, owls, and small mammals; and contains important winter range for elk, deer, and moose.
