The Environmental Protection Agency issued a recent ruling that says the White Mesa Uranium Mill can no longer accept radioactive waste from Superfund sites.

In a December 2 notice to the mine’s owners, the EPA deemed the facility “unacceptable” to accept Superfund wastes due to excessive emission violations.

The mill is located between Bluff and Blanding, three miles from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe’s White Mesa community.

In this report, KZMU Radio reached out to the attorney who fought for the EPA decision to talk about the mill’s future.
