Yuba River Watershed

Date: 07/22/2025     State: CA     Issue: Watersheds     Partner: South Yuba River Citizens League Airport Origin : Auburn, CA

Mission

Tour the Yuba River, in partnership with the South Yuba River Citizens League, staffers for Congressman Kiley, Assemblywomen Megan Dahle and Heather Hadwick, donors, and CA Senate for Natural Resources and Water, to explore possibilities to protect the watershed.

From the sky, the river system unfolds - a story of gold rush legacy, natural beauty, and the need for watershed restoration and continued management that benefits water resources, the economy, and communities. The Yuba watershed supports 80% of Californians.

Our flight traced the North and South forks of the Yuba, and resilient meadows like Van Norden, one of the largest and most ecologically significant meadows in the Sierra Nevada. We saw areas where restoration efforts are restoring floodplains and their bustling ecosystems, safeguarding a watershed that supports millions of Californians every day. These landscapes are ecological powerhouses - they store and filter clean water, sequester carbon, reduce wildfire risk, and support local jobs.

Stewardship of the Yuba River is a statewide investment in water security, community safety, and economic vitality. Thank you for your commitment to local communities and for exploring this watershed from above with us.
