Mission
Offered a rare perspective on the phosphate mines, development, and the vital river and habitat restoration efforts underway with the mining companies and conservation NGOs who have partnered together to promote smart mining and mitigating practices, as well as Idaho Dep. of Fish and Game.
Fly over the Upper Blackfoot River, a landscape rich in both ecological and cultural value. From the air, we traced a path eastward and back, flying over wetlands, the river itself, and the phosphate mines that have long shaped this region.
The high valleys of the Upper Blackfoot are a historic stronghold for native Yellowstone cutthroat trout and remain treasured by southeast Idahoans for their quality fisheries and scenic beauty. From above, we saw how restoration projects are reconnecting habitat, improving water quality, and sustaining this iconic river system for future generations.
Our route also followed migration pathways for mule deer and other wildlife, giving us a unique vantage point on the barriers these species encounter as they move through the landscape. Seeing this firsthand underscored the importance of projects that improve watershed health, reduce obstacles, and maintain healthy migration corridors.
