Mission
Use the big-picture perspective to inform the Bridger-Teton Forest Plan revision to help best manage this massive National Forest for the next thirty years.
The Bridger-Tetons encompass some of the wildest lands and most beloved recreation opportunities in the Lower 48. It is 3.4 million acres, our nation’s fifth largest National Forest, and has three wilderness areas, the Gros Ventre, Bridger, and Teton Wilderness areas. The BTNF is adjacent to the Grand-Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and National Elk Refuge. In the midst of this wild and continuous protected region, wildlife like grizzly, moose, elk, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, coyotes, and more than 355 species of birds thrive. Nearby communities and visitors also cherish these public lands and the expansive network of trails that support ample recreation opportunities like hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and skiing.
The BLM is in the process of revising the Bridger-Teton Forest Plan, which will influence forest management for the next thirty years. In the interest of protecting the Bridger-Teton National Forest’s wildlife, recreation opportunities, and quality habitat, a group of conservationists, stakeholders, and local folks formed the Bridger-Teton Working Group. The Working Group is preparing recommendations for the Forest Service to ensure the Bridger-Teton’s beloved recreational opportunities and irreplaceable fish and wildlife heritage are preserved for generations to come. The Working Group is focused on conserving the incredible lands, waters, and wildlife of the BTNF, while also considering sustainability in the face of threats like climate change and growing use patterns.
