Mission

Tomorrow is the Crystal River Wild and Scenic and Other Alternatives Feasibility Collaborative Steering Committee's Community Summit at the Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale, 5:00pm – 8:30pm! We flew to educate stakeholders and members of the media on the Community Summit that is open to the public and aims to introduce the different means of protection that are available for the Crystal River.

EcoFlight has been advocating for this special watershed to be protected from dams and diversions under a Wild & Scenic River designation for years. We also highly value the diversity of thought in our community, and think meaningful community dialogue is absolutely critical, and that is a big focus of our overflights. We have provided over one hundred flights of the Crystal River in the past two years (the current iteration of the Wild & Scenic process) with engaged community members, local electeds, press, scientists and experts, students, and this past summer, members of the Steering Committee. These flights are always offered at no cost and are covered from our general operating budget, and support from Pitkin County Healthy Rivers.

We know we don't need to convince most people here that the Crystal River is a special place - that's why our community has come together in the Crystal River Wild & Scenic and Other Alternatives Committee - but we are here to help folks in our community see the Crystal River from a new perspective, both literally and figuratively. We hope that everyone who gets to experience our spectacular Crystal River from the air is inspired to take this open-mindedness back to the community dialogues so that we can all come together and agree on what future we want to see for the Crystal River.
