Cumo Exploration Project
Date: 08/20/2025
State: ID
Issues: Mining, Watersheds, Wild Lands
Partners: Advocates for the West, Idaho Rivers United
Airport Origin : Boise, ID
Mission
Fly over the CuMo exploration site in the Boise National Forest, seeing the proposed project area from above, with Idaho Rivers United, Advocates for the West, press, Boise metropolitan's main water utility, and elected leaders, including Tod Achilles and Rep. Mike Simpson's staff.
Idaho Copper Corporation’s plan to build roads and drill pads here is the next step toward a massive open-pit mine - one that would sit directly upstream of half of Idaho’s population.
The Boise River watershed provides drinking water for Boise and irrigates more than 300,000 acres of farmland. A large-scale mine in this headwaters region would pose devastating threats to downstream users and ecosystems.
This project has been halted before, when courts ruled that the Forest Service failed to account for threats to groundwater and to rare plants like Sacajawea’s bitterroot, and EcoFlight’s partners continue to oppose the mining project. Thank you to our passengers for joining us for this perspective from the sky, and for your vigilance in protecting Idaho’s communities and natural spaces.
