Mission
At 9am on August 24, 2024, explosions rocked the bases of four massive smokestacks that have dotted the horizon just west of Farmington for half a century. The massive towers come crashing down with the historic closure and demolition of the San Juan Generating Station. This marks a huge step in the end of coal’s dirty domination of the Four Corners region.
Thank you to our partners at the Navajo Nation, San Juan Citizens Alliance, Diné C.A.R.E., and Tó Nizhóní Ání for long advocating and working to protect Four Corner communities. At full capacity, the San Juan Generating Station emitted more than 12 million tons a year of greenhouse gasses and more than 10,000 tons of nitrogen oxides annually. EcoFlight will continue to partner with Tribes and regional organizations to promote healthy economic transitions and explore potential for renewable energy projects.
