Mission
Thank you Senator Hickenlooper and Bennet for flying with us! The Dolores Canyons is a beautiful landscape to experience, especially from above.
Fly Senator Bennet over the Colorado River to the Dolores, then following that magical drainage to Nucla, and land for a public listening session on the proposed Dolores Canyons National Monument, hosted by the Senator.
We applaud Hickenlooper and Bennet for their leadership on this issue and their willingness to scout the area from above, which is the only way to see the proposed monument in its entirety.
Colorado’s Dolores River Canyon Country, an incomparable landscape that is worthy of protection. We flew above deep canyons and mesas surrounding this remote area of the Western Slope, which is one of the most important concentrations of biodiversity and wild public lands in the US. The region is part of the homeland of the Ute people, and includes many cultural sites and sacred areas.
Colorado Senators Hickenlooper and Bennet have led the charge to enact long term protections for the Dolores, proposing a National Conservation Area (NCA) for the southern reaches of the river country.
To complement the proposed NCA protection, the Senators are requesting and listening to public opinion surrounding a proposed national monument in the northern half of the Dolores region.
Thank you to the community and elected leaders who joined us for these overflights.
