Mission

Flights with Gunnison Public Lands Initiative and press over areas proposed for protection in Gunnison County, CO gave committee members a better understanding of proposal areas and provided a chance for different stakeholders to come together and see the area from the same perspective.

The GPLI is a citizen-led, community-based partnership working to permanently protect over 500,000 acres of public lands in Gunnison County for their wilderness, wildlife, agricultural, and recreation values. This unique and diverse coalition includes representatives from the ranching, water resources, motorized recreation, conservation, mountain biking, hunting, and angling communities. They work collaboratively and in partnership with the Gunnison Board of County Commissioners and Senator Michael Bennet's office. The GPLI is the outgrowth of community conversations that have been occurring throughout the county since 2012 about protecting public lands in and around the Gunnison Basin located on the western slope of Colorado.
