State: CO
Issues: Watersheds, Wild Lands
Partner: Buddy Program
Airport Origin : Aspen, CO
Mission
Conduct four flights with students to see the Crystal River, Elk Mountains, and local wildlands and watersheds and to inspire the next generation to be environmental stewards and engaged citizens.
We soared above many familiar places, some students saw their hometowns and schools. As we ascended, the snowy slopes glistened in the little sun that shown through the clouds. We could see the green of alpine meadows of spruce and pine, as well as expansive aspen groves. We flew over rich wildlife habitats that support species like elk, black bears, and golden eagles. Below us, shimmering water resources like the Roaring Fork River wind through the valley. As we returned to the airport, Aspen came into view in a new way with downtown streets lined with historic buildings, surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Elk Mountains.
