Mission

Create an EcoFlight documentary on the energy transition, featuring the San Juan Generating Station demolition, in the Four Corners with San Juan Citizen Alliance and members of the Navajo Nation.

At 9am on August 24, 2024, explosions rocked the bases of four massive smokestacks that have dotted the horizon just west of Farmington for half a century. The massive towers came crashing down with the historic closure and demolition of the San Juan Generating Station. This marks a huge step in the end of coal’s dirty domination of the Four Corners region.

Thank you to our partners for advocating and working to protect Four Corner communities, and helping achieve this incredible step towards change. At full capacity, the San Juan Generating Station emitted more than 12 million tons a year of greenhouse gases and more than 10,000 tons of nitrogen oxides annually. EcoFlight looks forward to our continued partnership as we work to promote healthy economic transitions and explore potential for renewable energy projects.
