Kansas - Wolf Creek Generating Station

State: Kansas

Wolf Creek Generating Station, a nuclear power plant located near Burlington, Kansas, occupies 9,818 acres of the total 11,800 acres controlled by the owner. Wolf Creek, dammed to create Coffey County Lake (formerly Wolf Creek Lake), provides not only the name, but cooling water for the reactor. Operating since 1985, the plant generates about 1,200 megawatt electrical, which is enough energy for approximately 800,000 homes. The residents around Wolf Creek are universally in favor of the plant as it has renewed the economic life in Coffey county.
