  • Boulder-White Clouds are now Wilderness!

    Boulder-White Clouds are now Wilderness!

For many years, Idahoans have worked to conserve these mountains and strike a balance between protection, access and responsible use. In 2015, President Obama signed the The Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Jerry Peak Wilderness Additions Act, which created three new wilderness areas totaling 431 square miles. The bill was a compromise between conservationists and motorized recreation - the bill protected wilderness, but it also released four wilderness study areas of BLM land on the east side of the East Fork of the Salmon River, just north of the Jim McClure-Jerry Peak Wilderness, which are now released to possible motorized use.

Flight Across America 2015 is off and running! This year's theme is, "Mega Drought: The Future of Water in the West". Our locations are: Moab (UT), Page (AZ), the Grand Canyon, Durango (CO), and Aspen (CO). Follow our journey on social media, and meet our students here, where we will be adding bios of each one.

Growing up in the arid plains of Central Texas instilled Katie with an early appreciation for water. Hydrology was an early academic interest, which eventually led her to Northern Arizona’s Master’s in Environmental Science and Policy. She felt that the aerial perspective that FLAA provides would enhance her understanding of these complex land management issues. She feels strongly that FLAA’s stakeholder meetings will provide her with valuable experience as she is pursuing a Ph.D. following her current MA degree.

ECOFLIGHT OFFSETS CARBON EMISSIONS
EcoFlight is purchasing tons of carbon offsets each month to offset the carbon burned in our overflights. Our carbon offsets support Methane Capture in Colorado with the Southern Ute tribe on their reservation, and also support reducing deforestation, one of the biggest opportunities for cost efficient and immediate reduction of carbon emissions.
